NORTH SCARBOROUGH, ENGLAND - Olivia Lansing, a three-time
All-Missouri Valley Conference women's golf performer for Drake, turned in a
strong performance at the 2010 Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship at the
Ganton Golf Club in North Scarborough, England (June 22-26) advancing to the
quarterfinals en route to finishing tied for fifth in match play.
Lansing fired a two-round total of 153 (77-76=153) in qualifying action
to reach match play. In her
opening round contest she bested Emma Brown of England, 3 and 2 before
registering victories over Louis Larson of Sweden, 2 and 1, and Sian James of
England on the 19th hole to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the round of eight, Lansing came up short in her bid to move into the
semifinals dropping a 2 and 1 decision versus Kelsey McDonald of England.
"It was a completely different experience than any tournament I've
played in before," said Lansing. "Not
only was it an enormous tournament with a deep field, it was also in a country
that I was unfamiliar with. The golf course required a style of play that was
very different from American golf, but I made the transition pretty easily,
which helped the first few qualifying rounds go smoothly."
"I'm proud of my performance in Ganton. It felt great to represent
the United States and also Drake in an international field."
"We are so proud of Olivia and this great accomplishment," Drake head
women's golf coach Leanne Smith
commented. "What a great
experience for her to make it so far in such a major event."
