AMES, IOWA - The Drake women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of the Iowa State Open on Saturday (Jan. 22) with six top-five performances in various events at the Lied Recreation Center.
Three Bulldogs turned in stellar efforts in the 60-meter hurdles as sophomore Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario), sophomore Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) and senior Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Smith was clocked in 8.96, Yeager in 9.09 and Curtis in 9.09 as well.
Curtis also finished second in the 400-meter race with a time of 56.24, which is the third fastest time in school history.
Senior Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) was third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 7 inches.
Senior Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa), in her first race of the indoor season, was fourth in the seeded 3,000-meter race crossing the finish line in 9:59:56.
Senior Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) registered an eighth-place finish in the triple jump and was 11th in the final heat of the 60-meter race. Pardner's triple jump leap was measured at 35-08.75, while she was clocked at 7.92 in the 60-meter race.
Drake will turn its attention to a pair of meets next weekend as members of the team will compete in the Jack Jennett Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa and also the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan. Both meets will take place next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29).
