Salibasic Garners Capital One Academic All-District Honors

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake men's tennis sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) garnered recognition for his efforts in the classroom as he was tabbed a first-team Capital One Academic All-America All-District VI At-Large selection.

Boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA, majoring in international business, Salibasic helped Drake to its seventh NCAA Tournament berth and a 4-1 opening-round victory over No. 34 TCU, on the strength of a 58-26 combined singles/doubles record.  He ranked second and third, respectively, in singles (34) and doubles (24) victories this season.

He was also named a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete and MVC Elite 18 selection this spring.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.  Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).

Salibasic advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.  Award winners will be announced on June 6.
