POWELLS POINT, N.C. –
Drew Ison led the Drake University men's golf team on the second day of the Old Dominion University/Outer Banks Intercollegiate on Monday.
Ison shot an even par 70 for a 36-hole total score of 141 (70-71) and is tied for 12th-place. Sophomore
Jack Kennedy recorded the second best round for the Bulldogs, shooting a three-over par, 74, for a total score of 153 (79-74). After firing a season-best, fellow sophomore
Tommi Avant struggled in the second round, shooting a 78 for a total score of 147 (69-78).
Matt Lavery and
Chase Wicklund tallied identical scores for the second straight day for a total score of 150 (74-76).
"I'm disappointed with how we scored today. I thought as a whole we hit the ball well. We really struggled with our putting. We missed too many putts and had our share of three putts. These unforced error really hurt us," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "The positive is how well we hit the ball as a team and I believe a low score is out there for us tomorrow."
The Bulldogs totaled a second-round score of 297 for a combined total of 584 (287=297) and are in 11th-place. Drake are just one stroke from getting back in the top-10 and 10 strokes away from getting back into sixth-place.
Drake will play the final round of the ODU/Outer Banks Intercollegiate and close out its fall season on Tuesday.
