CHICAGO – Drake University men's golf team are in fourth-place after 36 holes at the Northern Intercollegiate on Sunday in Chicago.
The Bulldogs recorded a score of 606 (302-304) and are eight shot behind third-place Indiana. Illinois leads the field with a score of 558 (-10), followed by Marquette in second with a score of 597.
"Matt (Lavery) and Drew (Ison) both played solid first rounds. Jack (Kennedy) and Chase (Wicklund) bounded back with better second rounds," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "We are looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow."
Drake's top-three scorers are three shots within each other and are in the top-20.
Drew Ison shot a one-over par 72 to begin his day and then finished the final 18 holes with a six-over par 77 to be tied for 15th-place with a total score of 149 (72-77). Fellow junior
Matt Lavery is tied for 18th-place and is one shot behind Ison with a score of 150 (72-78). Sophomore
Jack Kennedy had a slow start, shooting a 78 but answered the tough round with a two-over par 73 to be tied for 20th-place with a score of 151 (78-73). Freshman
Chase Wicklund ended his day with a score of 156 (80-76), while sophomore
Tommi Avant rounded out the team's effort with a score of 166 (83-83).
Drake will finish play at the Northern Intercollegiate on Monday.
