The 2015-16 season featured many thrilling moments and accomplishments for Drake athletics. From conference titles, outstanding team and individual accomplishments, postseason appearances and significant regular season victories, the Bulldogs had plenty to celebrate as they look forward to the upcoming season. Before embarking on 2016-17, www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com will take a look back at the top 10 moments of the 2015-16 throughout the month of July.
The No. 5 moment of 2015-16 comes from the all of Drake's student-athletes on Feb. 17 when the Bulldogs were honored with the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award for the second straight year.
As an athletic department, Drake received the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award for the second year in a row. The All-Academic Award is given to the school with the highest overall GPA in the MVC during the previous 2014-15 season.
More than 90 percent of Drake's athletic teams that compete in the MVC achieved a 3.2 or higher GPA during the 2014-15 season with 77 percent of Drake's student-athletes recording a 3.0 or better GPA during that span. Additionally, more than 13 percent of Bulldog student-athletes maintained a sterling 4.0 GPA for the academic year. Collectively, Drake's MVC teams recorded a 3.42 GPA in 2014-2015.
Drake student-athletes also earned a league-high five MVC Elite 18 awards and received a total of 273 academic honors from the MVC during the 2014-15 season.
The 2015-16 season was equally successful for the Bulldogs. During the fall semester, 256 student-athletes were recognizied for achieving a 3.0 or higher grade point average during the fall semester, representing 69 percent of the student-athletes at Drake University. Additionally, all 18 of Drake's teams recorded a 3.0 or higher GPA with those teams recording a cumulative 3.23 GPA in the fall semester.
