LEMONT, Ill. – The Drake University men's golf team finished the first day of the John Dallio Memorial Tournament on Monday in fourth-place.
"We got off to a great start, shooting five-under on our first nine holes. Holes 10 and 11 killed us with shots hit into the hazards," said Drake head coach
Matt Lewis. "The second round was more challenging as the wind picked up. I thought we were hanging in there until our final few holes. We gave back too many strokes on our final holes. I'm sure fatigue and the end of a long mental grind was a factor, but we had to many too many unforced errors and mental lapses."
The Bullodgs shot a 610 (300-310) and are six strokes from third-place North Dakota State. Host DePaul leads after 36 holes with a score of 589, followed by second-place Bradley with a score of 591.
Freshman
Kyle MacDonald is tied for fifth-place to lead the team with a score of 148 (72-76), while junior
Drew Ison carded a 153 (75-78) and is tied for 20th. Sophomores
Tommi Avant and
Arjun Reddy each registered a 155. Reddy shot a 76 to open the day and finished with a 79, while Avant posted a 78 in the first round and a 77 in the final round of the day. Freshman
Chase Wicklund rounded out Bulldogs' effort with a score of 156 (77-79).
"As a team we are in good position to have a solid finish and we look forward to the opportunity tomorrow," said Lewis.
Junior
Matt Lavery, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 20th with a score of 153 (74-79).
The Bulldogs will play the final round of John Dallio Memorial Tournament on Tuesday.
