FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –

Drew Ison and
Jack Kennedy all finished in the top-25 to lead the Drake University men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Bulldog trio all finished tied for 22nd-place with Ison leading the team in the final round by firing a one-over par 73 for a total score of 227 (78-76-73). Kennedy shot a 76 on the final day after recording a 77 and 74, respectively on the first day. Avant registered a 78 to close out the event after shooting a 73 and 76 in the first two rounds.
Freshman
Chase Wicklund also recorded a 78 on the final day for a total score of 235 (74-83-78). Junior
Matt Lavery rounded out the team's effort with a total score of 240 (80-79-81).
"I thought we played great for the first 16 holes, but as a team we gave away too many shots on our final two holes. We were close to having a good day," Drake head coach
Matt Lewis said. "Finishing strong is mental and definitely something we will work on going forward."
Drake recorded a 305 in the final round for a total team score of 912 (302-305-305) to finish in eighth.
The Bulldogs return to the links on March 19 in Williamsburg, Va. for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, hosted by William and Mary.
