Timmer Named MVC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Senior earns the honor after moving into second all-time in career scoring at Drake.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University senior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, Jan. 8.

Timmer led Drake to a pair of MVC wins last week by averaging 23.0 points per game on the week while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor (14-of-24) and 53.3 percent from the three-point arc (8-of-15).  He was also a perfect 10-of-10 at the free-throw line.

The senior guard opened the week by scoring 28 points with six three-pointers, on 11 attempts, and added four assists in the 25-point win over Illinois State for his eighth 20-point game of the season.  He followed that by scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the road win at Indiana State.  Of those 18 points, 10 came in the final five minutes to help the Bulldogs preserve their second MVC road win of the season and move into sole possession of first place in the MVC standings at 4-0.

His 28 points against Illinois State moved him into second all-time in career scoring at Drake, and he now has 1,677 career points, the 16th most by an active player.

Timmer and the first-place Bulldogs continue the MVC season on the road Wednesday evening at MVC newcomer Valparaiso. Tipoff against the Crusaders is set for 7 p.m. on The Valley on ESPN3.
