Timmer Named Enterprise Bank & Trust MVC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Four Bulldogs earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the third-straight year.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University senior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) has been named the Enterprise Bank & Trust Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third time in his career. Timmer shared this year's honor with Loyola's Clayton Custer.

Timmer has earned the honor all three years he has been eligible for the award and is just the second three-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining fellow Bulldog Adam Emmenecker.

Timmer was also one of four Bulldogs to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams as Nick McGlynn (Stoughton, Wis.) joined Timmer on the first team. Graham Woodward (Edina, Minn.) and C.J. Rivers (Cahokia, Ill.) collected second team honors to mark the third-straight year Drake has had a league-high four representatives on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams.

Timmer, who has a 3.47 grade point average in Drake's rigorous doctorate of pharmacy program, earned his third MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor after a season in which he scored 608 points, the fifth-most in Drake history. Additionally, he became the Bulldogs' all-time leading scorer and ranks 19th in MVC history in scoring with 1,956 career points. Earlier this week, he was named first team All-MVC and has thrice been named MVC Player of the Week in addition to five MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors.

McGlynn's honor was his second this week from the MVC as he was named to the league's Most-Improved Team Wednesday. The junior forward, who has a 3.51 GPA as a media production major, has averaged 11.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season against MVC competition. Earlier this season, McGlynn was twice named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week and as a sophomore, earned a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete second team.

For the third-straight year, Woodward earned a spot on the league's Scholar-Athlete second team a day after being named to the All-Bench team. Woodward is currently pursuing his MBA after earning a degree in marketing/management and has averaged 9.1 points per game this season as one of the league's top three-point shooters.

Rivers earned Scholar-Athlete honors for the second-straight year after a standout season in which he was the only student-athlete in the Valley to lead his team in rebounding, assists and steals. He owns a 3.37 GPA as a broadcast news major.

Drake's four honorees gives the Bulldogs a total of 12 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selections over the past three seasons, nearly double the total from the next closest Valley program during that span.

Drake's four MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selections begin MVC Tournament play Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. versus Bradley at the Scottrade Center.
