Gibbs comes to Drake from the WTA tour where he has helped to coach and traveled with top-hundred ranked touring professional and daughter, Nicole Gibbs, who is ranked in the top-90.
 
From 2007-2014, Gibbs taught English and head coached the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams at Crossroads High School in Santa Monica, Calif. He coached future UCLA standout and top ranked ITA singles player, Clay Thompson, to a 2009 Southern California individual state championship.
 
Gibbs taught English and head coached the boys’ varsity tennis team at University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio, from 1999-2007. He led the team to State Championships in 2002 and 2005.
 
Prior to his high school coaching, Gibbs taught in the philosophy department and assisted with the women’s tennis team at NCAA Division III John Carroll University from 1996-1999. He assisted with the men’s tennis team at Xavier University in 1993.
 
Gibbs played college tennis at Ball State University from 1985-1987. He earned his B.A. from Ohio University in 1989 and his Ph. D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1994.
