Drake Softball Team Loses 2 Games in Jayhawk Invitational

LAWRENCE, KAN. ? The Drake softball team concluded the Jayhawk Invitational losing the last two games Sunday.

New Mexico beat Drake 8-4 after resuming suspended play in the sixth inning Sunday from a game that was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday.

Analise Rubalcava hit a grand-slam home run in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference.

Senior right fielder Jenna Wilkin (Altoona, Iowa) capped off a two-run first inning for the Bulldogs when she doubled home junior catcher Susan Slycord (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley).

The Bulldogs enjoyed a three-run lead until the Lobos scored three runs in the fourth to knot the score at 4-4.

In its final game North Dakota State rallied in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to beat Drake 4-3.

Drake was up 3-1 entering the seventh, but were unable to plate a run in the bottom of the frame to send it to extra innings.

Slycord, who had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, paced the Bulldogs six-hit attack.

Drake scored two runs in the fifth when Slycord doubled home senior Lindsay Larry (Papillion, Neb.), who then scored on a single hit to left field by junior second baseman Jaci Faidley (Colfax, Iowa).

The Bulldogs, who fell to 8-15 after Sunday's action, will open Missouri Valley Conference play in a double header at Wichita State on Saturday (March 17).
