DES MOINES, IOWA ? Experience and youth made impressions in the Drake women's basketball Blue and White Showcase Sunday (Oct. 22) in the Knapp Center. Senior Lauren Dybing (Bloomington, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and freshman Rachael Hackbarth (Colgate, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored six points and grabbed three rebounds apiece to lead the Bulldogs to a 28-18 victory.

“This is a great even for the Drake students and community,” said Drake Head Coach Amy Stephens. “We are glad to see such a wonderful turnout to help us kick off the 2008-2009 campaign.”
Freshman guard Brittnye McSparron (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) gave a strong effort in her first action in a Drake uniform, scoring five points and collecting two rebounds. Forward sophomore Morgan Herrick (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarsburg) chipped in four points and two rebounds while senior guard Ashleigh Brady (Lubbock, Texas/Frenship) added three points and two rebounds.
Seniors Kelsey Keizer (Arnolds Park, Iowa/Okoboji), and junior forward Monique' Jones (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit) led quietly with three rebounds, two steals and two points, two steals, respectively. Junior guard Jordann Plummer (St. Louis, Mo./Cardinal Ritter) had three rebounds, two points and two assists.
The Bulldogs connected on 32.4 percent of their shots from the field and pulled down 26 rebounds in the 20-minute affair.
“This is a great opportunity for our players to put on the Drake uniform and work out the jitters and we can use this as a measuring stick as we enter the final phase of pre-season workouts and head into the season,” added Stephens.
Drake now shifts its attention towards its first exhibition contest Saturday, Nov. 1 versus Quincy. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m.
The Bulldogs open their 2008-09 campaign on Nov. 14 as they host Texas State at 7:05 p.m.
