ST. LOUIS, MO. ? The Missouri Valley Conference announced Monday (Feb. 18) that Drake senior Jill Martin (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) has been selected as the State Farm/MVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This marks the third time this season Martin has been tabbed for the weekly honor and the fourth time overall that a Bulldog has been honored with junior Lauren Dybing (Bloomington, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) taking home the accolades on Jan. 28.

Martin put together a strong week for Drake, averaging 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in helping Drake to a 1-1 mark. She connected on 46.3 percent of her attempts from the field.

She paced the Bulldogs with her fifth straight and league-leading 10th double-double of the season with a 22-point, 11-rebound performance versus Evansville in a 69-66 overtime setback last Thursday (Feb. 14). She registered 15 points and seven rebounds in the second half and overtime against the Purple Aces on 5-of-10 shooting.

In a 72-57 victory over Southern Illinois, she came one rebound shy of posting her sixth straight double-double as she let Drake a 16-point, nine-rebound effort. She finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the field.

On the year, Martin is averaging a team- and league-best 17.0 points per game, while ranking second in the MVC in rebounding with a team-high 8.6 caroms. In league-only affairs, she is registering 16.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, both the second in the conference.

She is the active leader for both men's and women's basketball in the MVC in career double-doubles with 36.

The Bulldogs (15-8, 8-4 MVC) return to action on Thursday (Feb. 21) battling Bradley in Peoria, Ill., at 7:05 p.m.
