EDWARDSVILLE, ILL.
- The Drake women's
soccer team will look to regroup quickly before its home showdown with Missouri
Valley Conference foe Creighton on Thursday (Oct. 15) after suffering a 1-0
setback at Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Sunday (Oct. 11).
The Bulldogs were
undone in their final non-conference contest of the season by Kristen Dailey's
game-winning goal in the 37th minute (36:46) that lifted the Cougars to their
first victory of the season. SIU
Edwardsville stands at 1-8-1 overall, while Drake sits at 6-6-3.
"SIUE played like
they were fighting for a win, we did not," Drake head coach Lindsey Horner commented. "We lacked intensity and the ability to
deal with their energy and pressure."
The Cougars outshot
the Bulldogs in the affair, 17-13, including 8-5 in the second half.
Redshirt sophomore Ali Walsh (Florissant,
Mo./Hazelwood Central) paced Drake with three shots offensively, while senior Elizabeth Woerle (Coon
Rapids, Minn./Meadow Creek), senior Crystal Townley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer)
and sophomore Lauren Berner (Omaha, Neb/Westside) added two shots apiece.
Correen Roark led the
SIUE attack with a game-high four shots.
Sophomore Kourtney Arnold (Norwalk,
Iowa/Norwalk) pulled in a game-best nine saves for Drake, while Claire
Lovercheck recorded seven saves for the Cougars.
The Bulldogs resume
MVC action on Thursday (Oct. 15) as Drake entertains Creighton in a 7:00 p.m.
tilt at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
