Nine Drake Relays Record Holders Expected To Return

DES MOINES, IOWA - American record holder Alan Webb leads a list of nine athletes who own Drake Relays records and will compete in the 100th running of the Drake Relays April 22-25.

Making his Drake Relays debut in 2007, Webb ran a 2007 world outdoor best in the invitational mile of 3 minutes 51.71 seconds to break one of the oldest Drake Relays records of 3:55.26 set by Steve Scott in 1979. Webb's performance in the mile at the Drake Relays was the fastest time ever run in the mile by anyone in the world in the month of April. The previous was 3:52.14 by Johan Fourie of Russia in 1986.

Christian Cantwell, who broke a 34-year-old record in the men's invitational shot put in 2007 at 72 feet 6.25 inches, is back, seeking his seventh career Drake Relays title. Cantwell was named the outstanding men's performer at the 2006 Drake Relays after bettering the previous Drake Relays mark of 69-6.50 set by Preston, Iowa native Al Feuerbach of the Pacific Coast Track Club in 1972.

Also among the men's record holders returning are two-time defending champion Anwar Moore, who set a record of 13.39 to win the men's invitational 110 hurdles in 2005 and Georgia's Chris Hill who established a meet record of 268-1 in the men's university-college men's javelin last year.

Three-time Olympian Amy Acuff, who set a Drake Relays mark of 6-4 in the women's invitational high jump in 2006, will be looking for her fifth career title in that event.

Des Moines native Lolo Jones, who was seventh in the 2008 Olympics, seeks her fifth straight Drake Relays title in the women's special 100 hurdles in which she posted a record 12.72 clocking in 2007.

Dowling Catholic's Katie Flood returns after setting a 2007 Drake Relays record in the high school girls' 3,000-meter run of 9:44.96.

Two high school girls who set Drake Relays records in their respective divisions are back but will be competing on the college-university division level.

Nebraska redshirt freshman Ashley Miller was the 2007 outstanding high school girls' performer after setting a Drake Relays record in the 800 in 2:10.10, beating defending champion and previous record holder Brooke Dinsdale from North Tama of Traer.

Iowa State junior Jenna Caffrey set Drake Relays records in the high school girls' 100 meter hurdles as a junior (14.12) in 2005 and a senior (13.80) in 2000 while competing at Burlington High School.
