DES MOINES, IOWA - The Drake
women's soccer team unleashed another defensive gem on Sunday (Sept. 20) as the
Bulldogs turned in their third consecutive shutout earning a 0-0
double-overtime tie with in-state rival Iowa State at Drake Stadium.
Earning a result in the match, Drake's ledger now stands at 3-3-3
overall, while Iowa State saw its record adjust to 4-1-4.
"Iowa State was a quality opponent and it was a great result for us to
earn the shutout," Bulldog head coach Lindsey Horner commented. "Our work
rate and intensity today were outstanding."
The defensive execution by junior Bailey Dorrington (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier), senior Rachel Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver), senior Karissa Brown (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon) and senior Melissa Lewis (Edina, Minn./Edina) proved
instrumental in Drake garnering its first result in a match with the Cyclones
since posting a 4-2 victory at Iowa State during the 2006 campaign.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kourtney Arnold (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) highlighted the defensive gem collecting a
game-high eights saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season.
Iowa State won the shot count in the affair, 15-13, but it was senior Elizabeth Woerle (Coon Rapids,
Minn./Meadow Creek) that recorded a game-high four shots to pace the Bulldogs.
The Cyclones garnered four shots apiece from Jordan Bishop and Jordan
Wagner. Ann Gleason pulled in five
saves for Iowa State.
Drake returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 24) with a 7:00 p.m. tilt at
UMKC.
