DES MOINES, IOWA - A 7-0 victory over Chicago State on Sunday (Feb. 28) at the
Roger Knapp Tennis Center provided the Drake men's tennis team with its third
consecutive triumph.
"Our team is starting to put things together," Bulldog head coach Jimmy Borendame commented. "Our doubles are looking better and
better every day and Mauricio (Ballivian) and James (McKie) are firing on all
cylinders in both singles and doubles.
The Cougars had only five available players at
their disposal and Drake took advantage in doubles earning wins at the top two
positions to garner the tally in doubles play.
In his first action on the dual campaign, junior
Evan Enquist (Rochester, Minn.) registered a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Jose
Leon at No. 5.
After dropping the first set in his meeting with Mehmet Duru
at the top singles position, junior Mauricio Ballivian (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) rallied to
post a 3-6, 6-1, 10-2 triumph.
Drake also collected wins from freshmen James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland), Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia)
and Ryan Drake
(Hilton Head Island, S.C.), along with sophomore Ryan King (Wildwood, Mo.).
Drake faces No. 68 Nebraska on Wednesday (March 3) in
Lincoln, Neb., for a 6:00 p.m. match.
"Nebraska is a very tough team, who is well coached and I am
looking forward to the match."
