DES MOINES, IOWA –  Four-time World Outdoor Championship medalist Wallace Spearmon will make his Drake Relays debut when he headlines the men's invitational 200-meter dash which will be held at 3:49 p.m. during the Saturday, April 24, session of the 101st running of the Drake Relays.

Spearmon, who ran the fourth-fastest 200 time in the world in 2009 of 19.85 seconds, will be out to challenge the Drake Relays record of 20.05 set in 1996 by four-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson.

He earned a bronze medal in the 200 at the 2009 World Outdoor Championships in Berlin, Germany. Spearmon also medaled in his first two trips to the World Outdoor Championships, picking up a silver medal in the 200 in 2005, while earning a gold medal on the 4x100 relay in 2007, in addition to capturing the bronze medal in the 200.

During the 2008 Olympics 200 final, Spearmon came roaring back from a slow start to finish third in 19.95 seconds, but was later disqualified for a lane violation, running on the inside line.

Spearmon proved his versatility in 2007 by ending the season ranked in the top 10 in the world by Track and Field News for the first time in the 100 meters (No. 10) and posting a personal best in that event of 9.96 seconds in Shanghai.

In 2006 he won the USA Outdoor 200 title and bettered 19.90 seconds on five occasions, moving to No. 3 on the all-time list with his personal best of 19.65 in Daegu, South Korea.

As a freshman, Spearmon became the first Razorback in history to win the NCAA Outdoor 200 title. As a sophomore at Arkansas, Spearmon defended his NCAA 200 title in 2005 in a then world-leading time of 19.91.

At the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championship, he fulfilled his potential with two American records in the 200. He ran 20.21 in the semifinals then improved to 20.10 in the final. Both broke the existing American record of 20.26 set by Shawn Crawford and John Capel in 2000.

Williams, 32, won the gold medal in running the second leg on the winning U.S. 4x100 relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also ran on the gold medal winning 4x100 relay at the 2001 and 2003 World Outdoor Championship.

In winning the silver medal in the 200 at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, Williams became the first American to win silver in that event since Carl Lewis in 1988. Williams' 200 time in Athens of 20.01 equaled his personal best originally set in Rome in 2003 which also was fastest in the world that year.

A versatile 100 and 200 sprinter, Williams won his first U.S. national title in 2003 by winning the 100 at the USA Outdoor Championship. He also won the bronze medal in the 100 at the 2001 World Outdoor Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
