ST. LOUIS, MO. - Drake Junior pitcher Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) was named Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley
Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced
Wednesday. Dordel was honored for her performance during the period of April
5-11.
The MVC Pitcher of the Week, Dordel, who has a 4.0 grade
point average in Accounting, was fantastic in the circle during Drake's 4-1
week, earning two wins and registering a sub-one earned run average. Dordel
began the week with a seven inning battle against Iowa State, earning a win
with a complete-game effort. She started game one of the Bulldogs' three-game
series at UNI, earning her second win of the week with a complete-game,
four-hit showing and striking out seven in the process. Finally, Dordel threw
eight shutout innings the next day against the Panthers, allowing just four
hits while striking out six. On the week, Dordel went 2-0 with an 0.95 ERA and
16 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.
Now in its 11th year of
existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms,
Roberts and Hiland Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its
student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and
academic success in the classroom.
"Prairie Farms continued involvement in
this program provides a visible platform by which to recognize our top student-athletes,"
said Commissioner Elgin, who is in his 22nd year with The Valley.
"Our student-athletes are the league's best representatives, and we are
grateful that we have opportunity to recognize Brynne (Dordel) through this
program."
