GREEN BAY, WIS. - Registering its second consecutive
road shutout to begin the campaign, the Drake women's soccer team netted a 0-0
double-overtime tie at Green Bay on Sunday (Aug. 22).
The Bulldogs (0-0-2)
dominated the game statistically registering a 26-6 advantage over Green Bay
(0-0-1) in shots, including 8-3 on goal.
"Our movement and
ideas off the ball got better as the game went on today," Bulldog head coach Lindsey Horner commented. "We created plenty of good chances, now
we just need to keep our composure and force the goalkeeper to make a
save. Two road shutouts to open
the season is a positive step in the right direction."
The two sides battled
to a scoreless tie at halftime with Drake owning a 7-4 advantage in shots led
by two shots apiece from juniors Lauren Berner (Omaha, Neb./Westside) and Danielle Figliola (Longmont,
Colo./Silver Creek).
Bulldog freshman
goalkeeper Kalena Litch (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and her counterpart Maddie Drusch for the
Phoenix each pulled in two saves in the initial 45 minutes.
Drake posted a 9-2
advantage in shots in the second stanza but was unable to capitalize as the
contest went to overtime.
In overtime, the
Bulldogs recorded 10 shots, while not allowing the Phoenix to register a shot.
Figliola and sophomores
Laura Moklestad
(Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) and Kasey Wellman (Northfield, Minn./Northfield)
directed the Drake offensive attack with six, five and five shots,
respectively. Six different Green
Bay players recorded a shot in the affair.
Litch finished the
game with three saves to notch her second consecutive shutout, while Drusch
pulled in eight saves.
Up next for Drake is
a meeting with North Dakota on Friday (Aug. 27) at 4:00 p.m. in Grand Forks,
N.D. The Bulldogs then conclude
their weekend road swing at South Dakota State next Sunday (Aug. 29) for a 1:00
p.m. matinee affair.
