LAWRENCE, KAN. - The Drake men's golf team finished 11th in the Kansas Invitational Tuesday at Alvamar Public Golf Course with a 297-298-312=907 total.
Oklahoma City shot a tournament-best 284 in the final round to give earn a convincing 11 stroke victory over runner-up Nebraska. Louisiana Monroe's Gustaf Kocken claimed medalist honors with a score of 212 for the tournament.
Senior
Ben Freeman (Fargo, N.D.) shot a team-low 73 Tuesday and tied for 26th overall to pace Drake with a 76-74-73 total. Junior transfer
Justin Weber (Bernard, Iowa) tied for 30th overall with a 71-74-79=224.
Seniors
Cody Schweinefus (Decorah, Iowa) and
Brad Reierson (Chaska, Minn.) finished 58th and 63rd, respectively. Schweinefus had a 79-72-80=231, while Reierson posted a 74-78-80=232.
Freshman
Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) rounded out Drake's scoring with a 76-80-82=238 to tie for 79th.
Drake returns to the state of Kansas to play in the 54-hole Jim Colbert Intercollegiate this Monday and Tuesday at the Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. Host Kansas State is the defending team champion. Drake did not play in the tournament last year.
