EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A pair of
goals in the final three minutes broke open a 1-0 contest and propelled Evansville
(2-11-4, 1-4 MVC) to a 3-0 women's soccer victory over Drake (3-10-4, 1-4-0
MVC) on Sunday (Oct. 23) in Missouri Valley Conference action.
The two combatants waged a scoreless contest
through the game's initial 45 minutes with each side garnering four shots.
The Purple Aces cracked the scoring column
first with what proved to be the game-winning goal when Kaitlin Robinett
connected on a header in the 67th minute (66:08). Earning the assist on the tally was Breana Beine.
Evansville maintained the 1-0 lead until
Beine registered a pair of tallies in a 70-second span to give the Purple Aces
their initial conference win of the season. Beine turned in goals at the 87:18 and 88:28 marks,
respectively.
The Bulldogs posted a 16-15 advantage in
shots, led by a team-high four shots from sophomore Paige Dusek (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North). Turning in three shots each were freshman Katie Helmlinger (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/Kennedy) and juniors Laura Moklestad (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) and Tara Zika (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline). Beine sparked Evansville with a game-high eight shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kalena Litch's (Plymouth,
Minn./Wayzata) registered seven saves in the affair, while her counterpart,
Chaviel Harrison, also collected seven stops.
Drake closes out its regular season on Thursday (Oct. 27) as the
Bulldogs host in-state rival Northern Iowa in a 7:00 p.m. tilt at the Cownie
Soccer Complex. Seeding
implications and a berth in the upcoming State Farm MVC Championship will be on
the line in the affair.
