COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Drake University softball team
dropped a doubleheader at No. 17 Missouri, Wednesday (March 2), falling 5-0 in
the opener and losing 8-1 in game two.
Missouri pitcher Chelsea Thomas tossed a perfect game in
the opener, blanking the Bulldogs for her first victory of the season. Thomas
struck out 11 in the win, forcing Drake to go 0-for-21 at the plate.
Senior pitcher Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) suffered her first defeat of the season
after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of work. DeLong fell to
4-1 on the season.
Drake scored first in the game two, plating the only run
on an RBI double by senior Erin Mollohan
(Tinley Park, Ill.) that scored freshman Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.)
Six Bulldog errors led to five unearned runs and a 5-1
deficit through five innings. The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the sixth
to reach their final total.
Senior pitcher Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) tossed six innings, allowing eight runs (three
earned) on seven hits in the loss. Dordel's record fell to 2-4 overall.
The Bulldogs fell to 6-5 overall.
Drake heads to Tulsa, Okla. to compete in the Holiday Inn
Tulsa-City Center Festival this weekend. The Bulldogs meet host Tulsa Thursday
at 5 p.m.
