MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore guard Kyndal Clark (Webb City, Mo.) scored a game-high 18 points as the
Drake Bulldogs overpowered the Quincy Lady Hawks, 73-38, in its first
exhibition game of the 2012-13 season in front of 1,736 fans at the Knapp
Center Friday night.
Stephanie Running (Oak Creek, Wis.), Dilonna Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Ashley Bartow (Verona, Wis.) each added eight points for Drake. Junior forward
Morgan Reid (Kansas City, Mo.)
chipped in seven points and five rebounds for first-year Drake head coach Jennie Baranczyk.
Quincy was led in scoring by Felisha Loggins who finished
with 12 points and added a game-high six rebounds. The Bulldogs held the Lady
Hawks to just 26.4 percent from the field.
Drake used a 8-0 run, the last two points from redshirt
freshman Carly Grenfell (York, Neb.)
on a layup to build an 18-9 lead at the 9:48 mark in the opening half. The Bulldogs
extended the lead to 37-18 going into halftime with the help of two
three-pointers from junior college transfer Mary Pat Specht (Shawnee, Kan.) and six points from Clark. Clark had
12 points in the opening half.
The Bulldogs held the Lady Hawks to just 22.2% shooting
in the half and forced 11 turnovers.
Drake came out with the same energy in the
second half and scored on six of their first seven possessions many coming in transition
to put the game away. The entire Drake roster saw action tonight and helped
Drake dominate with an efficient offensive attack, strong rebounding and tough
defense as the Bulldogs out-rebounded Quincy, 47-32 and forced 22 turnovers and
collected 13 steals.
The Bulldogs dove to the floor for many loose
balls and played unselfish basketball totaling 19 assists.
Drake will host Upper Iowa in its final exhibition
contest Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:05 p.m. The Bulldogs will start the regular
season when South Dakota visits the Knapp Center on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2:05
p.m.
