Bulldogs' Win Streak Halted As No. 48 Minnesota Earns 5-2 Decision

MARCH 9, 2012

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The 39th-rated Drake men's tennis team saw its season-best 12-match winning streak snapped on Friday (March 9) as 48th-ranked Minnesota recorded a 5-2 triumph at the Rochester Athletic Club.

The Bulldogs were in search of their third win of the season over a team from the Big Ten Conference, but destiny wasn't meant to be for Drake as the Golden Gophers swept the doubles competition to assume a lead they didn't surrender.

Minnesota extended its margin to 3-0 in singles play on the strength of victories at the Nos. 3 and 6 positions.

Sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) provided Drake its initial point in the affair pushing his singles winning streak to 17, including a 12-0 mark on the dual campaign, with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Jack Hamburg at No. 4.

Junior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) gave the Bulldogs their second tally of the evening downing Phillip Arndt, 6-1, 7-6 (0), at the No. 2 position.

Minnesota added two wins at the Nos. 1 and 5 slots, both in three sets, to round out a 5-2 victory.

The Bulldogs now have 10 days off before traveling to battle Texas at Arlington on March 19
