Olympians, American Record-Holder Highlight Drake Relays Men's and Women's High Jump Competitions

DES MOINES, Iowa--Chaunte Lowe, the American and Drake Stadium high jump record-holder, and four-time Drake Relays champion Amy Acuff headline a talented field for the 2012 Drake Relays women's special invitational high jump, set to take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28.

On the men's side, two-time U.S. Indoor champion and 2008 Olympian Andra Manson and 2011 U.S. Indoor champion Keith Moffatt highlight the entrants in the special invitational men's high jump at the 103rd running of the Drake Relays. They will compete against a talented field in the event beginning at 12 p.m. on the 28th at Drake Stadium.

Lowe set the United States high jump record of 6 feet 8.75 inches in front of a packed crowd at Drake Stadium during the 2010 United States Track and Field Outdoor Championship en route to her fourth USA Outdoor Championship in the event. Earlier that year, Lowe captured the Drake Relays with a jump of 6 feet 5 inches. During the 2010 indoor season she captured the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championship soaring 6 feet 6 inches. Lowe sat out most of the 2011 campaign because of the birth of her second child Aurora.

Acuff, who won the Drake Relays high jump in 2001 and 2004-2006, holds an outdoor personal best of 6 feet 7 inches set in 2003. She was the U.S. outdoor high jump champion from 2003-2005, and the U.S. indoor high jump champ in 2004, '08 and '09. Acuff's best mark of the young outdoor season is 6 feet 3 inches, which is tied for the best mark in the world this season.

Elsewhere in the women's competition, 2011 Drake Relays champion Sheree Francis of Jamaica will return to Drake Stadium to defend her title. Francis jumped 6 feet 2.75 inches last year, which was her best jump of the season. The field also includes Liz Patterson, who owns an outdoor personal best of 6 feet 3.25 inches set during the 2010 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Drake Stadium, en route a runner-up finish behind Lowe, and Sharon Day, the 2011 U.S. outdoor heptathlon champion. Day, the 2005 NCAA high jump champion owns a personal best of 6 feet 4.75 inches which she has accomplished twice in her career.

Manson, a two-time USA Indoor champion and two-time USA Outdoor runner-up, owns a personal best of 7 feet 8.50 inches that he set back in 2009. Manson looks to qualify for the 2012 Olympics after representing the United States in 2008.  He earned the bronze medal in the high jump at the 2008 World Indoor Championship and was third at the 2010 Drake Relays. Manson won the high jump crown at the 2004 NCAA Track And Field Championship while competing for the University of Texas.

Moffatt, the 2011 USA Indoor champion, won the 2010 Drake Relays crown soaring 7 feet 3 inches. His personal best of 7 feet 6.5 inches occurred at the 2006 USA Outdoor Championship en route to a runner-up finish. A year ago, Moffat snared a fifth place showing at the Drake Relays jumping 7 feet 4.25 inches.

Jamie Nieto returns to Drake Stadium after tying for third place at last year's Relays. Nieto has a personal best of 7 feet 8 inches set back at the 2004 Olympics en-route to a fourth place finish, and won the USA Indoor and Outdoor titles that year.

Rounding out the field are Tora Harris and Henderson Dottin. Both men competed at the 2011 Drake Relays, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Harris, a two time USA Outdoor champion, holds a personal best of 7 feet 7.75 inches. Henderson's best mark is 7 feet 4.5 inches, and is the Barbados record holder in the high jump.
