PEORIA, Ill. - Notching its sixth-consecutive
victory, the Drake men's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over Bradley on Friday
(April 6).
The tandem of junior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek,
Namibia) and sophomore Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) clinched the doubles tally for the
Bulldogs at the No. 2 position, downing Ahmed Albitar and Hamish Weerasinghe,
8-3.
Freshman Ben Mullis (Leicestershire,
England) pushed Drake's lead to 2-0 in singles following his 6-2, 6-0 victory
past Justin Abrams at No. 6.
Goodman added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Arthur Romanet at No. 5 to stretch the Bulldogs'
advantage to 3-0.
Sealing Drake's
fourth-straight 7-0 decision, at the top court, was junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia), who dispatched
Albitar, 7-5, 6-0.
The Bulldogs garnered
victories at the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 positions from junior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland), senior Jonathan Hadash (Lapid,
Israel) and freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) to close out their victory
total on the day.
After dropping the
second set in his showdown with Weerasinghe at the No. 2 slot, McKie notched a
10-0 super tiebreaker win to collect a 6-1, 4-6, 10-0 triumph.
Hadash bested Ashton
Kalhorn at No. 3, 6-2, 7-5, before Salibasic edged Juan Diego Cuadrado at the
No. 4 hole, 7-6 (1), 5-7, 10-7.
Drake closes the road
portion of its schedule with a 1:00 p.m. match at Illinois State on Saturday
(April 7).
