Softball Signs Cortney Wood To National Letter Of Intent

DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake softball signed Cortney Wood to a national letter of intent, head coach Rich Calvert announced today. Wood joins three signees from November that will be on the Bulldogs roster for the 2012-13 season.

Wood was an infielder/catcher the past two seasons for Indian Hills Junior College in Ottumwa, Iowa. The Alburnett, Iowa native hit .317 with six home runs, 17 doubles, 37 runs scored and had 44 RBI in 62 games and was named first-team All-Region by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in 2012. She earned second team all-state honors at Alburnett High School in 2010.

Cortney is the sister of Drake assistant softball coach Nicole Wood, who played two seasons at Drake.

The Bulldogs signed utility player Chelsea Blaylock (Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln), outfielder Seyerra DuBois (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) and pitcher/outfielder Mariah McKinnon (Oxford, Iowa/Clear Creek Amana) to National Letters of Intent in November.
