OMAHA, Neb. – Senior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) fired a team-low round of 72 to lift the Drake men's golf team to a two-stroke victory over Creighton in a dual match on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at the Omaha Country Club.
Six players competed for each team with the top-four scores for each side counting towards the team total. The Bulldogs posted a 302 scorecard, while the Bluejays carded a 304.
“The course played very tough today in challenging conditions with cool temperatures and on and off again mist,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. “Connor (Steele) played really well this afternoon and Dane (Worley) and Will (McDonald) turned in solid scores in the conditions.”
Junior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) registered the third-lowest score (74) of the day, while sophomore Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) tied for seventh with a round of 76.
Redshirt junior Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa), senior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) and freshman Brady Richardson (Tulsa, Okla.) rounded out the Bulldogs' efforts recording scores of 80, 80 and 85, respectively.
“We were able to get a victory on Creighton's home course, a course they know very well, so I'm really happy with that,” said Lewis. “It was a good way to end our fall and is a positive note for us heading into our spring season.”
The dual match concluded the fall campaign for Drake, who opens its spring season at the Rice Intercollegiate (Feb. 17-18, 2014) in Houston, Texas.
