DES MOINES, Iowa – On the strength of a first-half goal by senior Bryan Jantsch (Mission Hills, Kan./Rockhurst), the Drake men's soccer team registered its third consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory past UMKC (1-4-3) during the fourth-annual Ralph Gross Alumnni Classic on Saturday (Sept. 28) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.

In only his third collegiate start, redshirt freshman Darrin MacLeod (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) recorded a game-high five saves to extend his shutout streak to three.

Jantsch netted the game-winning tally in the third minute (2:48), collecting his second goal of the season.  Setting up the score with a strong pass through the midfield was redshirt freshman Ben LeMay (Hugo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy).

The tilt was a back-and-forth affair in the initial stanza as the Bulldogs maintained an 8-6 margin in shots at halftime.

Drake (3-3-2) extended its offensive attack in the second half registering a 10-4 advantage in shots, finishing the affair with an 18-10 margin.

The Kangaroos netted what appeared to be the equalizer at 67:46 mark as UMKC penetrated the Bulldogs' defensive line and found the back of the net with its shot attempt.  The score was nullified by an offside call against the Kangaroos.

Drake doubled down defensively over the final 22 minutes of the game to notch the shutout.

Redshirt junior Jarred Arde (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) paced the Bulldogs with a team-high four shots, while UMKC's Jordan Rideout recorded a game-high five shots.

Jantsch and senior Logan North (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) added three shots apiece for Drake.

MacLeod finished with five saves for the Bulldogs, while his counterpart, Chris McGaughey pulled in four stops. 

Drake returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 1) with a 4:00 p.m. showdown at Western Illinois.
