DES MOINES, Iowa - Three unanswered second-half goals lifted Evansville (5-8-1, 3-1 MVC) to a 4-1 men's soccer victory past Drake (3-9-3, 1-3 MVC) on Saturday (Oct. 25) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs were outshot in the affair 18-14, including 12-5 in the decisive second half.
The Purple Aces took an early 1-0 advantage in the affair on the strength of Dylan Terry's second goal of the season at the 13:12 mark.
Junior Alex Troester (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) netted the equalizer in the 39th minute (38:02) delivering his first career goal off a feed from the corner of the box by senior Thomas Schermoly (Olathe, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas).
The contest was deadlocked at one at the intermission on the strength of a 9-6 shot advantage by the Bulldogs.
Mark Gonzalez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 49:04 mark to give Evansville a 2-1 lead.
The Purple Aces were the recipients of tallies in the 54th (53:20) and 69th minutes (68:12), respectively, from Jared Robinson and Charlie Macias, to account for the final 4-1 margin.
Redshirt junior Alec Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan./St. James Academy) led Drake with a team-high three shots. Contributing two shots apiece were redshirt freshman Luke Mennen (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City High) and freshmen Gabe Edel (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) and Steven Enna (Overland Park, Kan./St. James Academy). Macias recorded a game-high four shots for the Purple Aces.
Redshirt sophomore Darrin MacLeod (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) pulled in a game-high four saves for the Bulldogs, while Eric Teppen made three stops for Evansville.
Drake returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 28) with a 7:00 p.m. tilt at Nebraska Omaha.
