GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Redshirt junior
Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) turned in a final-round 72 to direct the Drake men's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the Desert Shootout on Saturday (March 22) at the Palm Valley Country Club.
Leland finished the tournament with team-low 218 (75-71-72) total to tie for 46th place, while collectively, the Bulldogs recorded a 868 (292-282-294) scorecard.
“As a team, we were a little disappointed with our result today,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. “It was probably our worst ball striking and putting round as a team, we simply had a bad day. We didn't have anyone go low and that is what we needed on a course like this.”
Senior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) and junior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) closed out their tournaments with rounds of 73 and 76, respectively, to tie for 51st place, with identical 219 totals.
Senior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) fired a final-round 73 to wrap his tournament with a 220 scorecard and a 54th-place finish.
Sophomore Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) rounded out Drake's efforts recording an 80 to garner a 59th-place showing with a 221 total.
Drake returns to competition April 7-8 traveling to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate.
