WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Sophomore Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) fired a final-round 75 to direct the efforts of the Drake men's golf team at the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday (April 20).
The Bulldogs combined to register a 307 scorecard on the tournament's final day to finish with a 918 (314-297-307) total.
“Will (McDonald) and Devin (Leland) each played fairly solid all day as one bad hole for each proved to be the difference between shooting even par and what they recorded,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. “Devin really got up and down all day and made the most out of how he hit the ball and Will was much the same. With the forecast for good weather this week, we're looking forward to getting outside and getting ready for the MVC Championship next week.”
McDonald was the Bulldogs' top finisher posting a 223 (75-73-75) total to garner a tie for 34th place.
Redshirt junior Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) turned in a 76 over the final 18 holes to collect a tie for 58th place with a 229 (80-73-76) scorecard.
Senior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) carded a 78 to end his tournament with a 232 (79-75-78) total, good for a 68th-place tie.
Junior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and senior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) culminated their efforts with 54-hole scores of 238 (80-80-78) and 245 (85-76-84), respectively, to round out Drake's efforts for the tournament.
The Bulldogs return to action April 28-29 traveling to Silvis, Ill., to compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
