Bulldogs Notch 6-0 Exhibition Triumph Past Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's soccer team garnered goals from five different players en route to registering a 6-0 exhibition triumph past Grand View on Saturday (Aug. 16) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.

In a contest that featured three, 30-minute periods, 19 Drake players saw action against the Vikings, including seven newcomers.

The Bulldogs broke into the scoring column first in the affair when sophomore Rebecca Rodgers (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) collected the first of her two goals on the evening at the 24:39 mark. Earning the assist on the tally was senior Ashlie Stokes (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North).

Drake outshot Grand View in the initial period, 5-3.

Junior Kylie DeHaven (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) extended the Bulldogs' advantage to 2-0 in the 44th minute (43:19) delivering on a penalty kick.

In the second stanza, Drake recorded a 7-2 margin in shots.

The Bulldogs posted a 12-1 advantage in shots during the last 30 minutes en route to registering four goals to account for the final 6-0 margin.

Stokes pushed Drake's lead to 3-0 at the 63:44 mark striking a ball past goalkeeper Morgan Buzzell off a serve from the corner of the box from freshman Rachel Wanninger (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston).

In the 69th minute (68:41), freshman Brooke Salisbury (Kearney, Mo./Kearney) connected on a goal from the top of the box to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.

Rodgers and freshman Addie Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Platte County) capped the scoring for Drake with tallies at the 80:27 and 85:46 marks, respectively. Rodgers' goal came when she connected on a deflection off the post, while freshman Hannah Wilder (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) flicked the ball into the box for Jenkins to convert in the game's final goal.

The Bulldogs outshot the Vikings in the affair, 24-6, including 12-3 on goal. Rodgers recorded a game-high eight shots, while Stokes and Salisbury added four and three shots, respectively. Kelsie Walter paced the Vikings with a team-high two shots.

Freshman Haley Morris (Clive, Iowa/Valley) and sophomore Kylynn Moyer (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) nearly split the minutes in goal for Drake, with the duo combining to make three saves. Caitlyn Dayton and Buzzell recorded four and two saves, respectively, for Grand View.

The Bulldogs saw 701 fans attend their showdown with the Vikings, but Drake came up short in its attempt to set a new single-game attendance mark.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to their season-opening showdown versus Boise State on Friday (Aug. 22) in Portland, Ore. Drake will battle the Broncos as part of the Portland State Tournament starting at 5:00 p.m. CT.
