DES MOINES, Iowa - A pair of second-half goals lifted Milwaukee (2-0) to a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Drake on Sunday (Aug. 31) at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs (0-1-1) and Panthers battled through a scoreless first half with Drake recording a 7-5 advantage in shots in the initial stanza.
Milwaukee scored what proved to be the game-winning tally at the 46:28 mark when Reid Stevenson knocked a header past redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) off a corner kick from Magnus Flaatedal.
Petter Ingebrigtsen extended the Panthers' lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute (60:51) knocking in a shot from right of the box off a sideline feed from Stevenson.
Milwaukee posted an 11-10 margin in shots on the evening, including 6-3 on net. Redshirt sophomore James Grunert (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Bulldogs with a team-high three shots in reserve duty. A game-high four-shot effort paced the Panthers.
MacLeod registered a game-high four saves for Drake, while Liam Anderson made three stops for Milwaukee.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday (Sept. 5) hosting Green Bay in a 7:00 p.m. tilt at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
