MADISON, Wis. - Freshman
Drew Ison (Edmond, Okla.) carded an opening-round 74 to lead the efforts of the Drake men's golf team on Sunday (Sept. 28) at the Badger Invitational.
As a team, the Bulldogs recorded a 311 total to sit in 13th place on a leaderboard where the final six spots are separated by 10 strokes.
“I thought the guys hit the ball pretty well today, we just put ourselves in some bad spots and were not able to execute,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. “I firmly believe that with another round on the course tomorrow that if we can do a better job hitting our shots that we will shoot much better scores. The tournament is a quality test on a good course and we look forward to turning in a better performance tomorrow.”
Ison equaled a career-low mark with his 74 and finished tied for 21st place after 18 holes.
Sophomore Brady Richardson (Tulsa, Okla.) came in one stroke off Ison's pace posting an opening-round 75 to sit tied for 32nd place.
Recording an 80 for Drake in his collegiate debut was freshman Matt Lavery (Peoria, Ill.).
Shooting identical scores of 82 to round out the Bulldogs' efforts on the day was senior Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and junior Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.).
The second round of the Badger Invitational gets underway for Drake with tee times off the 10th hole beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday (Sept. 29).
DRAKE RESULTS: Drew Ison (74/T-21st), Brady Richardson (75/T-32nd), Matt Lavery (80/T-62nd), Dane Worley (82/T-70th) and Will McDonald (82/T-70th).
