ST. LOUIS – For the second consecutive week, junior goalkeeper Brooke Dennis (Wauconda, Ill.) of the Drake women's soccer team was named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and senior defender Emma Winstead (Iowa City, Iowa) was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week for their performances the week of Oct. 12-18, the league announced Tuesday.
Dennis collected her first career shutout in Drake's scoreless draw against the Loyola Ramblers on Saturday night. Dennis tallied a career-high 11 saves, including some big saves late in regulation and in the two overtime periods. Dennis is in her first season with the Bulldogs after playing her first two years at Ball State.
This is the first MVC defensive player of the week award for Winstead, who played every minute in the defensive battle with Loyola. Winstead was outstanding in her coverage of Loyola's top offensive threat, Jenna Szczesny, holding her without a shot attempt. Winstead has played in 14 matches this season and scored her first career goal in the win over South Dakota.
