BLUFFTON, S.C. – Drake University's Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) placed tied for 12th in the individual standings at the Colleton River Collegiate with a three-round score of 222 (72-72-78), as the Bulldog men's golf team finished in 12th with a score of 933.
The Bulldogs had a solid first two rounds at the Nicklaus Course (299-315) on Monday, but struggled at the Dye Course on the final round with a team score of 319.
“Overall the team struggled on a challenging golf course and we had too many big numbers,” said Drake head coach Matt Lewis.
Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) carded the best round of the day for the Bulldogs with a 77 and finished the three-day event with a 239 (80-82-77). Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) had Drake's second best score of tournament with a 235 (74-82-79) to finish in the top 60. Drew Ison (Edmond, Okla.) finished with a 241 (74-82-85), while Matt Lavery (Peoria, Ill.) posted a 244 (79-79-86).
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, March 16 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev., hosted by South Dakota State.
“With the warm weather back in Des Moines, we will be able to get outside and practice this week. Being outside will be very beneficial for us to be ready for next week,” said Lewis.
