MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 34 Minnesota nipped the 24th-ranked Drake University men's tennis team 4-3 on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers handed the Bulldogs their fourth setback of the season as Drake settles to 14-4.
Minnesota edged out Drake for the doubles point with 6-4 victories at Nos. 1 and 2.
The Gophers increased the gap with a win at No. 4 singles. Drake's Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina), who is ranked 55th in the nation, dropped the first set 6-1, but came back to win match by taking the final two sets 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Calum MacGeoch (Edinburgh, Scotland) earned a three-set victory, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, at No. 6, before junior Ben Lott (Newcastle, England), who is ranked 34th, tied the match up at three with a three-set win of his own, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. The Gophers' Felix Corwin managed to overcome from being a set down (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) to secure the match clinching point for Minnesota.
The Bulldogs travels to Tampa, Fla. on Friday, March 13 for the three-day USF Spring Break Tournament, hosted by South Florida.
