Wallace and Brown Win at Parapan American Games

TORONTO, Ontario - At the recently completed Parapan American Games (August 7-15) in Canada, Drake Relays alumni Jarryd Wallace and David Brown ran to gold medals and records in their respective events for the United States.

Competing in the T44 (single leg below knee amputation) 100 meter dash, Wallace set a world record in the event, running 10.71 to break American Richard Browne's mark by 0.04 second.  At the 2015 Drake Relays, Browne was first and Wallace fifth in the Paralympic 200 meter dash which included athletes from three disability categories.  Browne did not compete in the Parapan Games.

In the T11 division (blind/no shape recognition), David Brown and guide Jerome Avery sprinted to first in the 100 meter dash in a Parapan American record of 10.95.  In the 200 meter dash, they added another Parapan American record in the semi-finals running 22.82, then broke that again in the final in 22.74 to claim the gold medal.  Brown and Avery were third at the Drake Relays in the Paralympic 200 meters.

These runners will be amongst the 1,400 athletes from 100 countries competing at the Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships between October 21-31.
