Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The Drake women's soccer team dropped a road contest, 2-1, at Omaha on Friday, Sept. 11.
“We haven't been clinical in both boxes for a full ninety minutes yet,” said head coach Lindsey Horner. “We had enough corners and service across the goal's mouth to win the game, but need to bury our chances especially on the road. We also have to defend our box with more of an edge. We were in control of the game for the majority of tonight, but Omaha made good on its chances.”
Drake (2-5) fell behind 2-0 as Chelsi Rohloff scored both of Omaha's (2-2-2) goals, with the first occurring with less than three minutes before halftime, and the second coming just minutes in to the second period.
Junior Kayla Armstrong (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) scored her second goal of the season to cut the Mavericks lead in half, 2-1, but the score came late in the second half (86:31) as the Bulldogs rally attempt fell just short. Junior Sarah Grace Nicholson (Olathe, Kan.) earned the assist on Armstrong's goal.
Drake outshot Omaha, 6-4, in the second half, and had five corner kicks to zero for the Mavericks, but couldn't break through with the tying goal.
Rohloff's first goal was scored on Drake's starting goalkeeper Brooke Dennis (Wauconda, Ill.) who collected four saves in the opening half, before being replaced by Haley Morris (Clive, Iowa) in the net for the final half. Morris finished with one save.
The Bulldogs will try to snap their four-game losing streak on Sunday at Saint Louis. First kick with Billikens is set for 1 p.m.
