DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake men's tennis team kicks off the 2015 fall season on Friday as the Bulldogs host the Drake Invitational at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be a round robin tournament with six singles pools and four doubles pools.
The Bulldogs welcome four teams, Creighton, Gustavus Adolphus, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota.
Drake will have four players competing in this weekend's tournament, including sophomore Ben Wood, freshman Ben Clark and sophomore Bayo Philips or freshman Tom Hands. Clark and Hands will be making their collegiate debut for the Bulldogs. Wood joined last year's squad in January and saw limited playing time. He posted a combined 3-3 singles/doubles record.
Last season, Philips played at No. 1 doubles with Ben Lott in 14 matches with one of their best victories coming against No. 36 Jared Hilzik and Tim Kopinski of Illinois in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Philips posted a 17-12 doubles record and a 11-7 singles mark.
The Bulldogs will return to the courts on Oct. 2 at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
