The Drake University football team hosts defending Pioneer Football League co-champions and league-leading San Diego on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday's contest will be the 24th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Toreros. San Diego has a slight edge in the all-time series, leading 12-11. The Toreros have won the last three meetings and seven of the last 10. The Bulldogs enter Saturday's game with a 3-3 record and are 2-1 in PFL play after winning at Valparaiso last week. The Toreros are on top of the PFL standings with a 3-0 mark and are 4-1 overall.
Senior running backs
Conley Wilkins is one of the best in the PFL. He ranks second in the PFL with 558 yards rushing and 940 all purpose yards. Wilkins has scored at least one touchdown in six of his last eight games, dating back to last season. For the second straight year, fifth-year senior
Eric Saubert is leading the Bulldogs in receiving. This season, he has racked up 465 receiving yards on 40 receptions and five touchdowns. Last year, he caught 55 passes for 506 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Defensively, fifth-year senior
Taylor Coleman leads the Bulldogs and ranks third in PFL with 53 tackles. He recorded a season-high 16 tackles in Drake's setback at Dayton on Oct. 1.
San Diego was picked to finish first in the PFL Preseason Coaches Poll for the sixth straight year. The Toreros lead the league in several statistical categories. USD's offense has registered a league leading 34.6 points per game and an average of 455.8 yards of total offense.
Pacing the Torero offense is quarterback Anthony Lawrence and running back Jonah Hodges. Hodges leads the league in rushing and scoring with 113.8 yards per game and 10 touchdowns. Lawrence is completing a PFL-best 69.5 percent of his passes for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns. USD's defense ranks second in total yards, 283.2 per game, and is first in passing, limiting teams to an average of 154.8 yards per game.
