New Radio Broadcast Team Announced For Women’s Basketball

Drake hosts Winona State Nov. 1 in an exhibition contest with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Hunter Phillips and Randy Mauro will be the new radio broadcast team for the Drake University women's basketball program's upcoming 2016-17 season, the Drake athletics department announced Wednesday, Oct. 18. Phillips and Mauro will call the games on 1350 ESPN Des Moines.
 
Phillips, who will perform play-by-play duties, graduated from Drake in May, 2016 with bachelor's degrees in broadcast journalism and history. He broadcasted Drake men's and women's basketball, football and softball games for three years on the campus radio station, 94.1 The Dog, and served as the station's sports director his senior year. Phillips, a West Des Moines native, was play-by-play announcer for the Drake Broadcasting System's coverage of the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee.
 
"I am honored to be the new voice of Drake women's basketball," Phillips said. "As an alum, it is an exciting time to be a Bulldog. I am looking forward to a special season and sharing all of the exciting moments of each game with the passionate Drake fan base."
 
Mauro, who will serve as the analyst, coached high school boys basketball for 15 years at Dowling Catholic and Lincoln High Schools and has coached girls basketball for eight seasons in the local club program, the All-Iowa Attack. He and his wife, Jodi have three children, Mason, Morgan and Gabi. Mason is a recent Drake University graduate.
 
"It is an exciting time for everyone associated with the Drake women's basketball program," Mauro said. "I am thrilled to join Hunter on the broadcast team for an exciting and memorable season ahead."
