DES MOINES, Iowa – Sophomore
Tawny Carroll (Streamwood, Ill.) scored in the 41
st minute to lift the Drake University women's soccer team past Kansas State, 1-0, Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
Drake (9-3-1) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win over Kansas State (4-6-3) who had its two-match winning streak stopped with the non-conference loss.
Sophomore
Linda Fiorito (Overland Park, Kan.) sent a perfect cross across the box from right to left that Carroll headed in the near post past Kansas State goalkeeper Miranda Larkin. Carroll has three goals this season while Fiorito recorded her second assist of the season on the game winner.
Just over two minutes before Carroll's goal, the Bulldogs nearly had a goal as junior
Brooke Salisbury (Kearney, Mo.) headed a ball that hit the crossbar. Drake and K-State each recorded six shots in the opening half.
Kansas State only took one shot in the second half, but it nearly tied the game as sophomore Tatum Wagner hit the left post after beating the Bulldogs' defense and sending it past a diving
Brooke Dennis (Wauconda, Ill.) who then collected the ball. Dennis finished with two saves as she improved to 6-0 in the net this season.
Drake recorded 12 shots in the game with six in the second half. Salisbury led the Bulldogs with three.
Drake enjoys a break before returning to Missouri Valley Conference play at UNI on Oct. 11. First kick in Cedar Falls is scheduled for 7 p.m.
