Men’s Soccer Falls To Evansville, 4-3

Drake has a fast turnaround traveling to Bradley on Wednesday evening. The match against the Braves will start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on The Valley On ESPN3.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior James Wypych (Wellington, New Zealand) completed a hat trick for the Drake University men's soccer team who fell to Evansville, 4-3, Saturday, Oct. 22 night in Missouri Valley Conference action at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
 
Wypych scored the first goal for Drake (4-9-1, 1-4-1 MVC) and his fourth goal this season in the second minute of the game off of an assist from freshman Antonio Sanchez (Coralville, Iowa). Wypych completed the Bulldogs' second goal on Evansville (8-6-2, 3-2-1 MVC) in the 24th minute (24:17) this off an assist from sophomore Nic Jaimes (Olathe, Kan.). Drake's final goal of the game, and Wypych's sixth goal of the season, was scored during 64th minute (64:42) with another assist by Sanchez.
 
The Aces were able to tie the score in the first half with a goal in the 31st minute (31:11) by Ryan Koenig and a second goal in the 36th minute (36:32) made by Jared Robinson with a shot to the near post, assisted by Koenig. Both teams finished with nine shots. 
 
During the second half in the 65th minute, redshirt freshman Adam Nicholson (Iowa City, Iowa) nearly had a goal when he attempted a header shot but was denied when the ball hit the crossbar. Evansville tied the game for a second time with a goal in the 81st minute (81:51) made by Ian McGrath, assisted by Simon Waever. Later, benefitting off of a foul on Drake, McGrath's scored the winning goal in the 88th minute (88:18), as the Aces scored off a direct kick piece.
