DES MOINES, Iowa – The 44^th-ranked Drake University men's tennis team upset No. 39 Purdue, 5-2, and snapped the Boilermakers eight-match winning streak on Friday evening at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

"The boys came out and play exceptionally well tonight, and fought against an extremely tough Purdue team as five of the (singles) matches went to three sets," Drake head coach Davidson Kozlowski said. "Doubles was huge. We went with the changed doubles lineup that we went with against Tulane and reestablished our confidence to being able to close out some matches."

Senior Ben Lott and sophomore Ben Wood put together a 6-3 victory at No. 1, while sophomores Bayo Philips and Ben Stride clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs with a 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Calum MacGeoch gave Drake a 2-0 lead with the match's only straight set victory, 6-3, 6-3, over Purdue's Dominik Sochurek at the No. 4 spot. Gergely Madaraz, who is ranked 58^th in the nation, defeated Lott 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 to put the Boilermakers within a point, 2-1.

Drake secured the final two points from overcoming from being down a set. Freshman Tom Hands dropped the first set 6-4, before coming back strong, winning the final two sets 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6. After losing the first set 6-2, Stride went on to win the last to sets 6-3, 6-3, clinching the match for Drake.

The Bulldogs' final victory of the night came from freshman Vinny Gillespie, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.

Drake once again as a quick turnaround as it hosts No. 40 Denver on Saturday at 12 p.m.
