DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 39 Drake University men's tennis team hosts Western Michigan and UW-Green Bay on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs have opened the season playing against five consecutive ranked opponents and enter the weekend with a 2-3 record. Last week, Drake nearly defeated No. 40 Dartmouth and No. 32 Harvard, falling 4-3 in both matches.
The Bulldogs have yet to drop a doubles point with No. 1
Bayo Philips and
Vinny Gillespie and No. 2
Ben Lott and
Calum MacGeoch both starting the season 5-0. In singles, MacGeoch is the only Bulldog with a winning record with a 3-1 mark at No. 4.
Before Western Michigan comes to Des Moines, the Broncos will take on Iowa on Friday. Western Michigan is 4-1 this season and are coming off a split last weekend against two Horizon League opponents in Green Bay and Valparaiso. The Broncos topped the Phoenix 6-1 before losing 5-2 to the Crusaders.
Green Bay, who is the defending Horizon League champions, enters the weekend with a 4-2 record. Last weekend, the Phoenix went 2-1 as they opened the weekend with a 6-1 loss at Western Michigan before defeating Toledo and Butler to finish their week.
The Bulldogs will go back on the road next week with a trip to No. 23 Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 14.
