Women’s Soccer Travels To Navy Invitational

Drake plays Navy Friday at 6 p.m. and Towson Sunday at 11 a.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Drake University women's soccer team continues its non-conference schedule with two matches at the Navy Invitational on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 11. Drake opens the tournament against host, Navy, Friday night at 6 p.m. and returns to the field Sunday morning for an 11 a.m. match against Towson.
 
Drake, who ranks 10th in the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional poll, travels to Maryland with a 4-0-1 record after defeating South Dakota, 1-0, and Milwaukee, 2-1, in its first home matches of the season this past weekend at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
 
Sophomore Alyssa Brand (Skokie, Ill.) scored the winning goals in each win and was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference for her outstanding weekend by being named MVC Offensive Player of the Week. Brand leads the team and ranks tied for the second in the MVC with three goals scored. Junior Kasey Hurt (Ankeny, Iowa) assisted on both Bulldogs' goals in the win over Milwaukee. Hurt was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week. She leads the league in assists with three.
 
As a team, Drake allowed its first goal of the season in the Milwaukee match. The Bulldogs held their opponents scoreless for the first 408 minutes and 53 seconds of the season before the Panthers broke through. Drake's goals against average of 0.191 ranks ninth in the nation.
 
Navy holds a 2-4-1 record after defeating Maryland, 5-3, Wednesday night. The Midshipmen's win over the Terrapins is the first win in 11 tries in school history. Clare MacAdam leads Navy in goals with six. Towson is 1-4-1 after beating Temple, 1-0, Sept. 4, for its first win this season. Natalia Pinkney leads the Tigers in goals with two.
 
Drake returns to Cownie Sept. 14 to host Western Illinois in a non-conference match with first kick set for 7 p.m.
